Julie has been a musician since she was a young girl. She studied piano for 10 years, and participated in band and choir throughout middle school and high school. Julie earned a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Nebraska. While a student at Nebraska, she accompanied a church choir for 2 years, and led that choir for 1 year. After working as an actuary for 16 years, she decided to pursue music and education--her true passions.

Julie began teaching private piano lessons in 2007, and her studio has been at or near capacity since 2009. She also taught Kindermusik classes to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and their parents for 7 years. She has studied young brain development and how music enhances all areas of the brain. Her philosophy with regard to teaching music comes from the film Mr. Holland's Opus: "Music is supposed to be fun."

Julie now enjoys a varied career. In addition to running her piano studio, she is a Paraprofessional at Olathe East High School,, where she supports students with physical and intellectual disabilities. She is a member of the Olathe Music Teachers Association, and has served as chairperson of the annual Solo Festival since 2015.

Julie's approach to her life and her music can be summed up in the musical term brioso, which means "with vigor and spirit."
